Kinas ammoniakkstrategi øker etterspørselen etter VLAC

Regjeringen sikter 10 % ammoniakkandel i kullkraft innen 2027

Kinas satsing på fornybar ammoniakk for “co-firing” i kullkraftverk vil skape betydelig etterspørsel etter ammoniakktransport og gi et løft til markedet for Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLAC). Som en del av landets økonomiske handlingsplan for 2024–2027 planlegger Kina å oppgradere sine kullkraftverk til å samfyre (cofiring) minst 10 % ammoniakk innen 2027, noe som anslås å kreve rundt 200 millioner tonn ammoniakk årlig.

Et potensielt vendepunkt for VLAC-markedet
For å støtte denne omstillingen øker kinesiske myndigheter finansieringen og godkjenningstakten for store ammoniakkproduksjonsprosjekter, med flere anlegg for fornybar ammoniakk allerede annonsert. Den økende produksjonen vil styrke ammoniakkhandelen globalt og drive etterspørselen etter sjøtransport, noe som ytterligere forsterker de langsiktige utsiktene for VLAC-markedet. Ettersom Kina prioriterer avkarbonisering, vil VLAC-er spille en nøkkelrolle i den globale ammoniakkforsyningskjeden.
